崇拜，对怀有一颗懵懂的童心的我们来说，如同一匹脱缰的野马，让我们难以驾驭，更难以去用言语来表达对别人的感觉。小时候，我说我崇拜创建新中国的毛主席，长大一点后我说我崇拜航天英雄杨利伟，而现在，我却崇拜我身边的一个普普通通的人--我的外公。
我外公是一位慈祥而睿智的老人，虽然他那饱经风霜的脸上布满了皱纹，写尽了历史的沧桑，但他的眼睛常常流露出慈爱的光芒，让我倍感亲切。他已经是八十多岁高龄的耄耋老人，但他仍担负着辅导我英语的重担，那多少个令他为我而辛劳的日子，我还记忆犹新……
在一个寒冷的早晨，我敲开了外公家的门，忽然我发现自己忘带英语课本了，当我急得抓耳挠腮时，外公温和地拍拍我的肩头对我说：“我可能还有一本备用的书，我去找找。”望着他走向小书房的背影，我的思绪不禁飘向远方，想起妈妈对我讲过的外公的故事。
外公出生在一个书香门第，但他从小就崇尚自由，追求民主与自由的生活，他15岁就义无反顾地参加了革命，16岁就冒着生命的危险火线入党，风华正茂的他管理起南通市，但他不满足现有的知识，毅然走上一条艰苦的求学的之路，功夫不负有心人，他考取了上海外国语学院，成了一名大学生，毕业后因成绩优异被外国专家选去工作。到了五十岁，他又自学了第二外语--英语，他的桃李满天下，结出了丰硕成果。
“找到那本书了。”外公的声音把我的思绪拉回到现实中，望着外公那苍老而消瘦的面容，我下定决心：我一定学好英语，外公50岁能做到的事，为什么我在求学的年龄却做不好呢？“少小不努力，老大徒伤悲。”我决不会让外公失望。
